Spay Day 2025 – Free sterilization marathon for dogs and cats, on July 11, at the veterinary clinics of USAMV Cluj-Napoca. More than 85 graduate students will participate

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca, through the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, organises the annual Spay Day – Free Spay Day Marathon, on 11 July 2025.

About

Starting at 8.30 a.m., teachers and graduates will take care of the cases registered for sterilisation in the faculty clinics.

The annual community campaign run by USAMV Cluj-Napoca in this format since 2018 is primarily intended for pet owners with limited financial possibilities, but also for animals without an owner.

“Sterilization of pets is the most effective and humane measure to control the dog and cat population by eliminating the possibility of unwanted offspring and thus reducing the number of abandoned animals. This medical procedure also brings other important benefits, such as: reducing or eliminating the incidence of some genital tract pathologies, a significant improvement in the quality of life of these animals, modification of aggressive behavior, reduction of the number of animals that need to be euthanized or the overall positive impact on the community”,

explained Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cosmin Peștean, coordinator of the annual community campaign.

Registrations

Registrations will take place by phone – 0730176297, within the limit of about 45 available places, on July 9, from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, and surgeries will be performed in the order of the lists formed.

Rules for participants

Pet owners who sign up are asked not to feed their cats and dogs at least 12 hours before their sterilisation appointment.

Around 85 graduates of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, from the three academic lines: Romanian, English and French, will be involved in the Sterilization Marathon. They will be joined by teachers, veterinary doctors and technicians from all specialties, from the Reception to the Operating Theatre.
